|Cultures and families develop shared meanings and ways of interacting over many years and for a variety of reasons. A person living in a family or culture learns the different rules and reasons for various behavior over the course of their life-time,
and these behaviors often sharply contrast with those that were brought up in another region or within a different family. In many ways it is this difference between individuals that makes society interesting and dynamic, but many challenges can arise between
individuals brought up in cultures and family that support conflicting values, morals, and traditions.
BaFa BaFa is a cross-cultural simulation that helps participants better understand the challenges they face in our ever-globalizing world. The simulation lasts between an hour to 90 minutes, and allows each participant to have their own unique experience in working to understand other cultures. The nature of the simulation allows for trial and error, and the exercise will culminate at the end with a discussion between the varying cultures about what went well, what the greatest challenges were from each point of view, and how these obstacles can be better overcome in the future.
The simulation shall take place in the Office of Service, Spirituality, and Social Responsibility, located on the basement level of the chapel on Thursday, March 23rd. The simulation will begin at 6pm. Please bring a friend, spread the word, and we hope to see you there!
